Human sight is a marvel of complex engineering. Two biological sensors capture light bounced off objects, pass it through lenses made of living cells and project it onto a specially designed receptor system turning each image into neural impulses. These twin electrical codes are then sent to the brain which translates them into color, depth, clarity, contrast, texture, size, distance and a logical interpretation of what is right before our eyes. We believe we are seeing a single image, but we are not. We actually view the world through two visual inputs separated by inches on our faces. To realize the complexity of this process, consider how difficult it would be to place a pair of video cameras side by side, then to combine these different vantage points into one seamless image. Yet the brain is able to instantaneously knit together a constant barrage of visual stimuli.
