Embracing Life’s Interruptions: Finding Peace and Purpose Through Divine Perspective

Life is full of Interruptions.

The car breaks down, the roof springs a leak, the computer fails to connect to the internet.

A big sales deal just closed and needs to start today, an irate customer is threatening to take their business elsewhere, a key employee turned in their two-week notice.

Someone close to you has died, is sick, or needs help with an Interruption in their life.

An opportunity to meet with someone has come up. There is a very small time window for them to meet with you. This person is really, really someone you are eager to meet with.

I missed an important deadline and I need to minimize any negative consequences.

When we encounter an Interruption in our lives, how do we handle the other responsibilities we have?

How do we adjust the tasks of the moment and other priorities to properly deal with the Interruption?

This is why it is important to have a clear and defined list of values in our life. How we handle Interruptions in life is reflective to what we value the most.

The less we are aware of the values in our life, the more we can be manipulated by others interjecting Interruptions into our lives.

We can set boundaries to limit the opportunity for an Interruption to alter what we are focused on. Example: we turn our phones off, refuse to answer the door, or decline invitations to special events.

Setting boundaries is very helpful in protecting us from the sinful behavior of others. But we need to be careful our boundaries allow for divine appointments God sends our way.

No magic formula here. This is where divine direction is most helpful.

Protecting time to seek God, to know God, to know ourselves, to define our life priorities, is so helpful to handling Interruptions well.

Life is full of Interruptions. Some good. Some GREAT. Some annoying. Some bothersome. Some disturbing.

A focus on being busy, making productive use of our time, makes it more difficult to handle Interruptions. Our society puts too much focus on being active, and not enough on relationships.

Learning to trust God for outcomes, allowing God to direct our steps, will increase the amount of peace and joy in our lives, especially with Interruptions full of trials and tribulations.

Look at life from God’s perspective. You will have more opportunity to enjoy your Interruptions.
