Unfortunately, education has become more focused on regurgitating information than on teaching people to think. Today I challenge you to think.
Fact: A real occurrence, an event. Undeniable information.
Theory: An idea or set of ideas explaining facts or events, based on evidence, assumptions, and reasoning.
When a theory is widely accepted by the majority of a group of people it is often accepted as a fact.
Thus, for those of us seeking truth, it is important to be aware of the assumptions and reasoning used to support a theory. We need to be careful not to confuse theory with fact.
People tend to believe what is repeated to them over and over again. This is why the Communists seek to control the messaging in the media and in education when they seek to control the population of a country.
Example: when youth are told fluoride prevents cavities by teachers in schools, parents, advertisements, government, and scientific “specialists” or “experts,” it tends to be accepted as fact (truth) throughout their life.
Similar with evolution. Sixty years ago, when I was in grade school, evolution was being taught in the classroom. Though appropriately, in the 1960s at the schools I attended, evolution was presented as a theory.
These days we need to be reminded, evolution is an explanation of how plants, animals, and geological features came into existence. No one was around millions of years ago to witness evolution. Thus, it really is an explanation of various facts.
Example: no one living today has verified a fish leaving the water and developing limbs to live on dry land. There are no fossils displaying an intermittent stage of life between one species and another. The number of significant mutations needed for any fish to be able to live on dry ground are so great, any explanation given takes increasingly lengths of time in the effort to convince the population evolution is a fact and not just a theory.
The theory of evolution implies life is gradually getting more and more complex, and mankind continues to increase their knowledge and understanding of the world we live in.
Yet the knowledge and ability to build pyramids is beyond our capabilities today. There must be some lost knowledge on how to precisely cut and move such large stones used to build pyramids around the world.
The term “theistic evolution” was introduced in the classroom while I was in middle and high school. I believe this was an effort to bring God back into creation, since evolution was being more widely accepted and evolution was excluding God.
Being aware of relative recent sudden geological catastrophes like the eruption of Mount St. Helens in Washington state on May 18, 1980, provide me a better explanation of how the Grand Canyon and other similar areas of the world could have been formed.
Facts:
- The oldest written history only goes back to 3400 B.C. by numerous sources.
- There are similar geological rock layers all over the earth.
- The theory of evolution was introduced less than 200 years ago.
- Within these layers of rock are fossils.
Theory:
- Any explanation for how the fossils got into the rock layers.
Facts vs. Theory
In every area of life, we need to be careful to understand facts and real evidence vs. theories and explanations, when we are seeking truth.
What do you think?
