So often we compartmentalize our lives. As such, especially at this time of the year, we reflect on each area of our lives and ask questions like: “Am I being a good husband?”, “Am I a good father?”, “Am I including God’s perspective in my business decisions?”.
While those are great questions, TCA proposes the best questions focus on the whole instead of the various parts. One example would be: instead of asking “How faithful am I with tithing?”, to ask the question “How well am I investing all that has been given to me for the glory of God?” For most Christians, the tithe is the 10% of their income that belongs to God. The remaining 90% is their’s to use as they please. From a stewardship perspective 100% belongs to God.
From a business perspective, it is like asking questions as to various parts of the business. “Are recieveables being collected within terms?”, “How much is on backorder?” or “How can we improve our products and services?”. All good questions and they need to be asked. But the best questions focus on the whole. “How well are we fulfilling the vision for the company?” “Why are we in business?” “How are we bringing the eternal into the many daily decisions we make each day?”
We welcome your input and questions on this perspective. Be a part of the new TCA blog to discuss stewardship as it relates to business. What are some of the things we would do differently in business, if we keep the 100% stewardship perspective before us?
TCA thought for the month: Questions related to the whole are tougher to work through. But once answered they make other decisions easier to make.
God bless you as you consider how you are doing as a steward of God’s blessings.
